Here are the most important questions you should know about any bookkeeper you are considering for your business. We have provided our answers below, so that you know what to expect from us.

1. What qualifications & professional memberships do you hold?
Within the team at Firm Foundations, we hold the following qualifications and professional memberships:

2. What insurances do you have?
We maintain up to date Professional Indemnity Insurance, and are covered by Public Liability Insurance wherever we are.

3. Who will undertake the data entry and BAS preparation?
We have a number of experienced bookkeepers, and someone will be allocated to look after you upon commencement. If for some reason your allocated bookkeeper is unable to help you (ie. If they are away sick or on holidays), there are others that can help with your enquiry. We have a tight quality control system which ensures that your books are of a high standard regardless of circumstances. Your allocated bookkeeper may or may not process the BAS, but they will contact you regarding the outcome, and assist you with any queries you may have.

4. What experience/references do you have?
Our biggest reference is the fact that most of our clients have been referred to us by their accountant. It is a great complement to us that we are considered to deliver high quality bookkeeping that greatly assists accountants in their job, rather than hindering them.

5. If the work is done in an accounting package, who retains ownership of the data file?
We consider that the data file belongs to you as the business owner. If for any reason we are no longer required to do work for you, once your account has been closed we will provide you with your data file and any original paperwork that belongs to you.

6. Where will the work be done?
General bookkeeping and BAS preparation is carried out in our office. If we are providing training for you, we will come to your work site, so that you are in your usual environment and you have access to the necessary documentation you may need.

7. Who will be responsible for rectification work?
If we have made an error in your work, we will rectify it at no cost. If your bookkeeping contains errors left behind by your last bookkeeper, our normal rates will apply. In this case, we will liaise with yourself and your accountant, to determine the most effective solution for you.

8. What does the bookkeeper require to process the work?
For small/medium businesses, we generally ask that you keep all of your paperwork in a folder that we provide for you, and we will use this folder on a regular basis to process your work. For many of our clients we arrange a courier service to collect the folder for us and deliver it back once we are finished. If this isn’t suitable, we can make other arrangements. For larger businesses, you may already have someone doing basic data entry of bills and raising of invoices. In this case we may simply request to see certain invoices. In all situations, we will have questions to ask you on particular transactions. Unless you are paying for our mind-reading service, we ask that you answer our questions to enable us to provide the best service we can :)

9. How will the bookkeeper communicate with my accountant?
Our relationship with your accountant is taken seriously. We consider a holistic approach to your business, as it provides you with the greatest outcome to continue building your business. We will liaise with your accountant on any issues we feel may impact their role, and as such we often pinpoint issues early that could become big problems if left until the end of the year. Also, as every accountant is different, we will work together with them on high-end transactions, to determine the most efficient approach for you and your business.

10. What will it cost?
